  • Just like how a unique identity number (Aadhar) is issued for every citizen of India, Udyog Aadhar is the Unique Identity Number issued for your business. 

  • Whether you are a new Entrepreneur, or have been in the business for quite sometime, the benefits of Udyog Aadhar are plenty. Hence it is very important that you register your Udyog Aadhar as soon as possible.

The registration of Udyog Aadhar is quite easy and can be done by Entrepreneurs on their own by following the detailed procedures and guidelines mentioned below.





  • Go to the following website and just start your registration by yourself.
     Click on

  • Enter your Aadhar Number and Name as per Aadhar.

  • Validate and Generate OTP. Enter the OTP number received on your mobile phone used while registering with Aadhar.

  • Your 12 digit Aadhar Number: Aadhar is a necessary document to register as MSME. If you do not have your Aadhar number yet, there are few alternatives to get the Udyog Aadhar which will be discussed in a separate post.

  • Name of the Applicant: Enter the Name of the Applicant (the Business Owner's name in this case). Please note that the name should match with the name as per your Aadhar Card.

  • Social Category: Fill in your Social Category, whether you belong to SC, ST, OBC or General. You must have your community certificate in hand as it will be asked by appropriate authority when required.

  • Gender: Select your Gender in the next field.

  • Physically Handicapped: Select Yes or No under Physically Handicapped section.

  • Name of Enterprise/ Business: Fill in the name of your business in the next field. If you have not already, it is a good idea to choose a unique and suitable business name. This will be printed on your MSME certificate and remember MSME certificate is a life time certificate, hence it is better if you could freeze a good name for your business and stick to it.

  • Type of Organization: Next select the type of organization, Sole Proprietor, Partnership, LLP, HUF etc.

  • PAN Number: Fill in the PAN Number. It is optional for Sole Proprietorship Concern, Partnership Concern, HUF and for Self Help groups. For Companies, it is mandatory to fill in the PAN Number.

  • Location of Plant: Plant is any asset you use to carry out your business. It could be your computers, printing machines, dyeing machines etc. A plant is something you do not buy and sell on regular basis to make profit out of it. Hence in this section, mention the address of where your plant is located. It could be located in a different place from your office or your plant and office could be in same location.

  • Office Address: Mention the address of your office if it is different from the place where your plant is located.

  • Mobile Number: Mention your 10 digit mobile number.

  • Date of Commencement of Business: Type in your Date of Commencement of your Business which will appear on the MSME certificate. A Date of Commencement of Business is the date which has been mentioned in the Partnership Deed for Partnerships, Date mentioned in the Certificate of Incorporation of your Company, in the case of Companies etc. This is the same date you provide for your GST Registration as well.

  • Bank Account Number: Fill in your Bank Account Number. It is a good idea to open a separate Bank Account for your business and not to use the same bank account where you operate your personal transactions, to avoid confusions in the future. This is a very important aspect which many entrepreneurs do not pay attention to.

  • Bank IFSC Code: This is a unique identification code of your Bank's Branch. Fill in your Bank's IFSC code. Usually it is found on the front page of your cheque book, or the front page of your Bank's Pass Book. It is an alpha numeric code with 11 digits. Example: SBIN0012747 is the IFSC code for one of the branches of State Bank of India.

  • Main Business Activity: From the drop down list select whether you are a manufacturer or service provider. If you are involved in both manufacturing and providing service, mention the major activity carried out.

  • NIC 2 Digit Code: Here you choose the Primary Business Activity, to mention which sub-category your business belongs to. Choose it correctly after going through the entire list of activities mentioned in the drop down.

  • Number of Employees: Mention the number of employees in this section. Include only those who are permanently employed in your concern and ignore the temporary or contract workers.

  • Investment in Plant and Machinery: add up all the values of plant and Machinery
     you have invested so far and mention it here in this field. While calculating the value do not consider the value of Pollution Control Equipment, Industrial Safety Devices or Research and Development Equipment etc.

  • After entering all the details, click submit button. You will again receive an OTP. Enter OTP to complete the registration process.

  • After your application is processed, you will receive an acknowledgement number
